2006年，日本千叶大学与新加坡南洋理工大学举办了第一届国际联合研习班，其目的是为了给学校之间提供一个跨文化交流学习的机会，让两所大学的学生交换思想和进行主题产品设计。随后该国际联合研习班（International Joint Workshop）每年举办一次，参加的学校不断增多。2016年是该国际联合研习班举办的第十一年。天津大学工业设计专业有幸主办，特邀来自千叶大学、南洋理工大学、香港理工大学、成功大学、延世大学、成均馆大学、国立全北大学、亚洲大学、江南大学、南澳大学、天津大学等十一所不同国家和地区的知名高校，以及韩国三星艺术设计研究院的学生联合进行为期7天的主题设计。

短期设计工作坊不仅为企业的设计添砖加瓦，更重要的是培养工业设计专业学生与其他学科专业及校外学生合作协作、沟通交流、快速设计的能力，不同的设计主题顺应时代的发展，让学生的思维一直紧跟时代发展的步伐。

   In 2006, Chiba University of Japan and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore held the first international joint workshop. The purpose is to provide a cross-cultural exchange between the opportunities for students and to share ideas and incorporate product design for a theme. The International Joint Workshop is held once a year and the number of participating schools are increasing. 2016 is the eleventh year of the International Joint Workshop. Tianjin University of Industrial Design was given the honor to host the Internation Joint Workshop. We invited Chiba University, Nanyang Technological University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Success, Yonsei University, Sungkyunkwan University, National Jeonbuk University, Asian University, Jiangnan University, South Australia University, Tianjin University , other well-known universities in different countries and regions, as well as South Korea's Samsung Art Design Institute students jointly for a seven-day theme design.

    Short-term design workshop not only contribute to the design of the enterprise , but also help training students of industrial design and other disciplines to work with overseas students, nurturing their skills in communication, rapid design capabilities. Contemporary themes guide and keep students’ thinking with the pace of development of the times.
